New publication! A Child-Centred Approach to Justice: Ibero-American Perspectives for a Regional Agenda
We’re delighted to introduce a new, collaborative publication on a Child-Centered Approach to Justice: Ibero-American Perspectives for a Regional Agenda.
Led by the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, prepared by the Ibero American Alliance on Access to Justice, with support from Inspiring Children’s Futures and the University of Strathclyde, this report raises the profile of child-centred justice in the Ibero-American region.
This report serves as a tool for political advocacy and regional cooperation. It calls on state actors and civil society to make concrete commitments, to ensure that no child is left behind when exercising their right to justice, consolidating this right as an essential pillar of sustainable development, social cohesion, and democratic strengthening in the region.
It outlines six key messages: access to justice is realised through a process, which does not begin in the court nor end with a sentence; the judiciary is a key actor in an ecosystemic justice response, but it is not the only one; genuine participation of children and adolescents is indispensable for transforming justice; building justice with, for, and from children requires redesigning the system; a justice system that works for children is a justice system that improves for everyone and is projected into the future; access to justice is an enabler of rights and a driver of inclusion.
With just five years to Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development - and a long way to go to improve children’s access to justice - closing the implementation gap is critical.
