5-SCALE

Grassroots Dialogues on Children’s Justice Journeys | Accelerating Global Justice Transformation

About the Project

The Securing Children’s Access to Justice and Remedies through Local Empowerment in 5 Countries (5-SCALE) project seeks to make child-centred justice a reality by listening directly to children about their justice journeys, identifying what supports or hinders them, and incorporating their views and experiences into systemic reforms. By centring children’s views and experiences, we are aiming to generate insights that drive holistic reforms, from grassroots initiatives to global justice transformation.

Children’s experiences of justice are shaped not only by laws and institutions, but also by the people and communities around them.

An ecosystemic approach asks us to look at how legislation, public services, neighbourhoods, and support systems can help children navigate justice systems —and where gaps remain.

Across four continents and five countries, our partners are creating safe environments, building trust, and inviting children to share their stories. By understanding children’s justice journeys - where the system has supported them, and where it has fallen short - we can inform change that truly matters.

Together with children, we will share their views and experiences with local and national policymakers, working to ensure that every child can find a fair and compassionate response when they seek help. Our partners are also learning from each other, sharing approaches and amplifying children’s key messages internationally, so children can inspire change both in and far beyond their communities.
