5-SCALE - Colombia

The Foundation Laboratory of Ideas, Dialogue, and Actions for Peace (IDALAP)

About the Project

IDALAP’s 5-SCALE Grassroots Consultation project focus is children and restorative justice programmes.

Inspiring Children’s Futures and IDALAP have been working in close collaboration since 2024 on various projects focused on securing justice for children in Colombia.  Previously, in 2025, IDALAP worked with children and young people who were in conflict with the law and enrolled in restorative justice programmes, to capture what access to justice means to children and young people involved in these processes.

IDALAP’s 5-SCALE project focus follows on from this work, expanding to capture the views and experiences of children and young people living in one of Bogotá's most socially complex and underserved neighbourhoods, who are at disproportionate risk of coming into contact with the law. IDALAP’s project will support the identification of ‘tipping points’: moments where timely, responsive interventions can effectively prevent unnecessary interactions with the justice system.

IDALAP (Laboratorio de Ideas, Diálogo y Acciones para la Paz) is a Colombia-based organisation that co-designs evidence-informed solutions with children and youth, strengthening access to justice, protection systems and community resilience. IDALAP combines participatory research, policy influencing and training across Latin America.

Project Resources

In 2025, IDALAP worked with children and young people to co-create age-appropriate, accessible information on rights and justice. This project sought to strengthen children and young people’s understanding of their rights, and how the justice system works, to ensure they can claim their rights in justice proceedings.

Responding to children’s distinct needs, and realising their full range of rights and opportunities, is the basis to achieving peaceful, just and inclusive societies for all.”
