Serving the Future Report Launch! Hospitality in Scotland: Key Issues for the Future of the Sector

Inspiring Children’s Futures is delighted to announce the launch of the Serving the Future Project’s first report on the Future of the Hospitality Sector in Scotland.

Serving the Future is a partnership between the Institute for Inspiring Children’s Futures, The Fraser of Allander Institute, the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, and the Poverty Alliance. It is funded by the Robertson Trust. The goal of this project is to identify how hospitality industry employers can reduce in-work poverty, and what organisational, systemic, and policy-based changes can address working poverty and, consequently, child poverty, in Scotland.

Today, we published our report summarising the first stream of work in this project. This workstream used scenario planning workshops to figure out what can be done to both support the sector financially and reduce in-work and child poverty. Two scenario planning workshops were held with two different groups: hospitality workers and hospitality business operators. This report sets out the different future scenarios imagined by each group, the concerns voiced by each group and the actions that can be taken both by employers and the hospitality sector, as well as the wider policy action implications necessary to reduce in-work poverty within this sector. Keep an eye on both our website and the project page at ServingTheFuture.scot for future developments within this project.
