Children’s Wellbeing and COVID-19

COVID-19 has abruptly thrust the rights and wellbeing of children and families into greater risk, around the world.  While around the globe all are working to manage the impact of COVID-19, in the process we may risk overlooking its impact on children facing the greatest adversities. Minimising the negative impact of the COVID-19 emergency on children will be critical to children’s recovery. More than that, children’s wellbeing will also be essential for the medium and long-term societal and global recovery and resilience.

Inspiring Children’s Futures aims to ensure that children have what they need to reach their full potential, particularly those children who face adversity. We’re doing this by developing the evidence-base, and strengthening the political will, to support effective policy and practice responses for children through all stages of this pandemic, especially for those children who are most likely to be left behind.

And so we are working closely with partners to deliver these three COVID-19 projects:

Learning from Past Pandemics

We are protecting children’s wellbeing by learning from past epidemics to better inform COVID-19 policies and practices: We have drawn together themes and lessons into this Learning Report One, through a brief scan of the literature and focus group consultations with humanitarian and child experts.

Learning from the Present Pandemic: The COVID 4P Log

We are informing a global understanding of policies and practices to support children’s wellbeing during this COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID 4P Log is an international smartphone app, created to record practitioners’ and policymakers’ experiences of supporting children’s rights and wellbeing throughout this pandemic, by asking a daily question over 8 weeks. Regular thematic Learning Reports are informed by the data collected and used to prompt policy and practice change.

Rebuilding from COVID

We are securing children’s wellbeing by learning for the future. As the pandemic recedes and post-COVID recovery takes priority, we look to develop an Economic and Social Response Framework to enable national and local governments to build resilience and sustainability for children’s wellbeing.

Responding to children’s distinct needs, and realising their full range of rights and opportunities, is the basis to achieving peaceful, just and inclusive societies for all.”
