Children’s Human Rights and a Healthy Ocean

We are working with the One Ocean Hub to drive change to fully realise all children’s human rights, for fair and inclusive decision making and a healthy ocean where people and planet flourish.

We’re working in partnership with the One Ocean Hub, an international programme of research for sustainable development, to promote fair and inclusive decision-making for a healthy ocean whereby people and the planet can flourish.

The ocean provides over half of the oxygen we breathe, absorbs our carbon dioxide, provides us with food, and supports the livelihood of millions of people. Climate change, over-fishing, ocean plastics and many other pressures are posing a serious threat to the ocean and to the planet as a whole.

While children contribute the least to the devastation of environmental degradation, they will bear the greatest brunt of its effects. We strive to empower communities most reliant on the oceans – especially children and families – to inform decisions based on multiple values and knowledge systems.

We are taking forward a programme of work on the role of a healthy ocean in the context of children’s right to a healthy, safe and sustainable environment, to address knowledge gaps and promote an inclusive approach to Ocean Governance.
